Oxygen

Oxygen is a colorless, tasteless, nonmetallic element constituting 21 percent of the atmosphere by volume. Occurring in the atmosphere as a diatomic gas, O2, and in many compounds such as water and iron ore, oxygen is used for organic and inorganic chemical synthesis. It combines with most elements, is essential for plant and animal respiration and is therefore highly valued for its life sustaining properties. Oxygen is required for nearly all combustion. Zero grade of oxygen is used as a fuel gas in various types of chemical analyzers.
